VOLUNTEER TEAMS RALLY FOR DAY OF CARING 2007
On April 20th and 21st the United Way of
Deschutes County matched over 450 volunteers from local businesses
with 43 service projects at local nonprofit agencies. Volunteer
teams from area businesses not only see the needs of the community
through working with service agencies, but they also play a part in
meeting the agencies’ needs. Day of Caring provides an opportunity
for individuals to share their talents and give back to the
community at the same time. The 11th Annual Day of Caring
was sponsored by Lifewise Health Plan of Oregon.

Community matters.
Day of Caring
has been an annual tradition since 1996. United Way of Deschutes
County matches community volunteers with service projects at local
nonprofit agencies. It provides an opportunity
to get involved with your United Way and community agencies that
serve hundreds of individuals and families in our community every
day.
In past years
volunteers have collected food, painted houses, cooked and served
meals to the elderly, installed wheel chair ramps, created a dog
park and provided general assistance for nonprofit organizations
that could use our help.
Many local companies allow their employees to participate in
Day of Caring
as a way of giving back to the community. Employees see it as a
team-building experience and they also come away with a better
understanding of nonprofit agencies and services in our area. And,
United Way donors are given a first-hand opportunity to see how
services supported by the Community Impact Fund aid people in need.
Day of Caring
demonstrates how
-
programs are
affecting people's lives.
-
volunteering
can make a positive impact on community concerns.
-
United Way
is more than just a fund-raiser but a mobilizer of people and
resources.
