United Way Funding Targets Basic Needs – Food, Shelter & Child Safety
BEND, OR (July 26, 2011) – The United Way of Deschutes County announced today a funding plan for 2011-12 that includes a total commitment of $907,266 to help sustain a range of essential community services provided by local and regional non-profit agencies. The total fund disposition package includes $648,000 for the twenty-six social service agencies that partner with United Way of Deschutes County and $259,000 in contributions earmarked by donors to a host of additional agencies.
In response to the relentless increase in human service needs in the region, United Way‘s 35 member Community Impact Review Committee directed more than $250,000 to United Way partner agencies that provide food, shelter and other basic need services. Approximately $150,000 is directed to programs that address issues of child and family violence. More than $210,000 will go to programs for healthy development of children and youth. Non-profit agency support programs will receive $33,000.
Review Committee Chairman, Paul Morton said, “Our volunteers had to make some rather tough decisions in order to direct funding to agencies and programs that are most directly responding to the way our community has changed over the last few years, as is evident by the strong focus on funding basic needs. “
Through the generosity of our donors, the United Way of Deschutes County is able to fund deserving health and human service organizations that have proven their ability to make critical and lasting changes in our community. From basic needs to specialized care, these agencies touch the lives of one-in-three residents of Deschutes County each year. These organizations are required to follow quality standards to ensure that they provide the most effective services resulting in the most successful outcomes.
